知足不辱，知止不殆
——《老子》第四十四章
格言大意：知道满足就不会受到屈辱，知道适可而止就不会有危险。
Main Idea: One won’t become humiliated if he knows how to be satisfied. One won’t be caught in great danger if he knows where to stop.
范蠡功成身退（Fan Li resigning after success）
越过打败吴国后，越王勾践挽留功臣范蠡，不让他隐退。范蠡乘船偷偷逃离越国，隐姓埋名，经商致富。范蠡曾劝另一功臣文种也功成身退，文种不听。后来他被勾践逼迫自杀。
When Wu was defeated by Yue, the king of Yue, Gou Jian, tried very hard to persuade Fan Li who had contributed a lot to stay and not to resign .But Fan Li secretly escaped from Yue by boat and concealed his identity. He went into business and became rich. Fan Li had once tried to persuade another minister, Wen Zhong, to resign after success but he wouldn’t listen to .He was forced to commit suicide by Gou Jian later. |
