君子强学而力行
——扬雄《法言·修身》
格言大意：有道德的人勉励自己用功学习并且努力去行动。
Main Idea: Moral men encourage themselves to study hard and then work hard to put theory into practice.
顾炎武学以致用（Gu Yanwu putting what he learned into practice）
明末清初的大学者顾炎武特别注意学以致用。他先后到北方各地考察，用马和骡子驮着书籍备用。沿途，他还向老兵、渔民和樵夫们请教。顾炎武把实地考察所得到的资料与读书积累相融会，写成了一部专著，这些专著今天仍是研究山东、北京等地历史地理的重要参考资料。
The great scholar in the years of Ming Dynasty being replaced by Qing Dynasty, Gu Yanwu, paid special attention to putting what he learned into practice. He investigated actually various areas in the north one after the other with horses and mules carrying his books for reference. On his way, he also learned from veteran soldiers, fishermen and woodcutters’ Yanwu made a comprehensive study of what he learned from the on-the-spot investigation and from the books. Then he composed a monograph. Today his works are still important reference sources for study on the history and geography of Shandong and Beijing areas.
